I still pop by every now and then, but admittedly its just to check out the gig log. I would post, but what I have to offer has very little relevance to what is being discussed.

I think everyone has expressed valid points.

There are some cool new"ish" tools to keep up with the forums and post. One does not have to be in front of a desktop or laptop, as the site is very mobile friendly, and spreading the word will help...

    - Tapatalk: This is a free app. I have not investigated Android, although I'm sure they have it, but have it on my iPhone and iPad. It lets you keep up with your favorite chat boards, follow threads, and post responses. Mobile Beat is tapatalk friendly!

    - Mobile Beat app: Cut to the chase, download to your favorite mobile device to keep on top of the forums.

    - Web: The site has gone through performance upgrades from the user interface to everything on the back end including data centers, hardware, internet providers, tech specialists dedicated to improving and maintaining the site, software platforms, database upgrades, security, and other "trade secret" items.

    - Sharing: If you look at the bottom of the page, threads can be shared on Twitter, Google Hangouts, and Facebook. Just click one or multiple selections to share in your social media.

    - Media: Share media here including videos, photos, audio, and links to other pages.

Please make use of the tools and see how they help you, and help the forums!

Kevin, you do have a lot to offer and have some cool stuff going on that no one here has thought of...

    Just my two cents!

Very true Mark, technically the site is better, someone is regularly feeding the hamsters that run on the wheels that power the site...and great new features have been added. This only makes the answer to the question ("What has happened to this site?) even more interesting. In light of all that's changed, why hasn't this site experienced a resurgence? To me, and if I'm reading between the lines correctly (and I believe I am), I'm not alone, the answer is painfully clear. What's responsible for the lion's share of the decline of this site hasn't changed. Why hasn't anyone openly stated what that is? Good question, which speaks directly to the problem, which hasn't changed.

I also agree with Cap. Digital music and the ease at which it can be obtained (legally or otherwise) has created an over abundance of supply. The demand side is explained by the fact that so much of the country is barely better off economically than they were after the crash of the housing market.

At least in my market, a market that still boasts the largest average wedding budget in the country, there is now the "New Normal", Many millenials now put their money that they used to spend on a large engagement ring and on a lavish reception and put it towards the down payment on a starter home.

Now, throw in that very few DJs are skilled at getting the public to understand how their price is justified via their Unique Selling Proposition, and there you have the perfect storm which has us where we are today.

What makes someone a truly successful DJ (and not just the self-congratulatory type that annoy so many here) usually makes them truly successful at other ventures as well...better paying ventures. So many of the few, very elite, successful DJs here have moved beyond simply DJing. There are a few here that remain, but many of those have simply downshifted as they get ready to retire -Z-

Why hasn't there been a resurgence in the Iphone 5
    Or myspace.com?

The world is no longer impressed by something just cause it's "better"....
What they want is something that is NEWER.
Once a "thing" is replaced by something new...it has lost it's appeal.
There are new website like MobileBeat.com coming out all the time...
and people always wanna jump on a new bandwagon.

I'm not getting how your analogy fits. There are plenty of user forums that have had minimal negative impact from Facebook and many have benefited from it. Facebook and User Forums aren't mutually exclusive nor redundant. People F L E D this user forum. It started as a trickle and then beame a mass exodus; it occured at a very specific time frame, in response to some very specific events. -Z-

You asked why the site has not seen a resurgence.
I compared MobileBeat.com to "old technology"...because being one of the first, this site has been around a while.
My feeling is that there is nothing wrong with this site, it's just that they are no longer the "new guy".
Even the most popular things can lose their attraction when something NEW comes along.

If something bad happened here, I am unaware of it....
but I would imagine it's because of a few bad apples who chased away new AND old members.

I get notifications on a regular basis of a new member joining yet they never post or very rarely do. I'm not really sure why they don't.

I used to LOVE this board. My current account is from 2008 but I had one before that. I changed accounts and became mostly a lurker because of a fallout irl with a (at the time) very active member.

Sadly it's been so long now that I had to reset my password to get in! I still email Ken once in a while with B-52 questions though!

I'll try to stop in more often and post more. Maybe we can get it rolling a little bit?

I have a recommendation. I've mostly trolled this site every now and then because of the great information. I've also attended Mobile Beat in Vegas which is a great show because of this forum. How about you guys update your profile pics. I don't think a lot of new up and comers wanna see a forum with a bunch of old guys on it. I'm old school too, but I try keep up with the young'ens and the latest and greatest. When I go on here I see Barney Rubble, Astro Vans, bunch of stuff from the 80's :) Feel free to tell me to go to hell. It's just a suggestion. Buhahhaaa!

Yeah! It could be many here are full of bookings and just don't have time to check in. My slow month is here - November I only have 3 events total this month. Similar for January with only 4 events booked. December is much better.

I hate to break it to you, but there is a lot more than just the "technology aka the toys and lights" to talk about, and those other topics are being discussed on the two other busy mobile Dj forums and the 100's of mobile DJ facebook groups.

It says closed group on the links above. Does that mean one must pay to be a part of it, or, it has too many Djs already, or a select group?
