Can we agree on 4 things? (dead horse thread 622)

    1. Breathing 2. Like music 3. Have equipment 4. Can string enough words together to form a coherent and inteligent sounding sentence.

You and I wake up in jail together.

Don't drop the soap! Do not bend over! What were we drinking? So this is jail... I have been framed!

    On a scale from 1-10

10 is perfection. God is the only perfection. Besides, didn't Pink say that God is a DJ?

    On a scale from 1-10

    1. The only ten in my book is God. 2. Everybody needs improvement in this fallen world so nobody will get to the 9.9. 3. Me, I'd say on this scale I'm a 1; that is good enough. The clients I have are happy so I'm happy. So, if it ain't broke, don't fix it so I see no improvement necessary.

    SEO Scam

Jason: Are you on Craigslist? I have noticed that every time I update my Craigslist ad I get calls from these bozos.

    My NYE cancelled :(

Up until now I've always stayed away from NYE and inflated my prices to ensure I wasn't working. Now that I am part of the Elks, I am pushing a NYE party at the lodge and DJing it. I don't plan to drink and the ones that do are making plans for DDs or to just stay over at the lodge.

Photo Booths make more than DJ's :(

There are many companies promoting them. The lowest I saw advertised was around $400 for three hours but they were upselling supplies. I'm going to have the wife do a market test to see what the price range is for those that don't post their prices. As indicated, there is a glut of DJs and...

Photo Booths make more than DJ's :(

In area glutted with DJs we are also glutted with photo booth rental companies. Steve mentioned $800 each rental. Cut that in half for the Baltimore area. I was thinking about it until I did the research.

    Moral Question

Kerry's got it right. Before "retiring" I actually was over $1,000, which ain't too bad in a market choked with DJs. Somebody said that I represent the lodge; that's not true. I am an officer but the DJing is separate. It has to be. Here's the situation. I decided to shut down the business...

    Moral Question

The only problem is that I don't want uncle Bob touching my gear. There is actually the possibility of a permanent install for the lodge. I am soliciting a few members to do this and when done all I will need to bring is my mixer, laptop, and drives. Even then I wouldn't want uncle Bob...

    Moral Question

Yes I would. I actually closed down the business a few months ago to spend more time with my wife and doing Elks stuff. One of our members saw one of my events and knows what I do on Friday nights and asked me to open up just to take bookings at the lodge. So, I did. I won't miss any lodge...

    Moral Question

I didn't say that. I said they could barely afford the $500 DJ. Believe me, I'm still making a profit but not a big one.

    Moral Question

It is a moral question for me being that I am in a unique situation. I work only at my Elks lodge on Saturday. Compared to most venues in the area, the Elks Lodge is a steal at $500. Considering the catering prices in the area, our most expensive option is still a bargain. Most people...

    Moral Question

Well, since I am exclusively working at the lodge, #2, how much can you afford. Honestly, the hall holds 100 people; the rental fee is $500; and the most expensive catering option (cash bar) is $25/person. So, for a wedding they are looking at $3,000 with a capacity hall. It ain't the Ritz but...

    Moral Question

OK, I'm ducking... A prospective client comes to you. You are not booked for their date. After the pitch they tell you that they are interested but just don't have the budget to afford you. So, is it: 1. Hit the road jack. 2. How much can you afford? 3. Can we do a payment plan? 4...

Waasta left his comfort zone, but he found his security blanket again so all is well

Byron: Don't sweat the little stuff and it is all little stuff. As I said, I understand what you are doing and I applaude you. People say that you are leaving money on the table and I disagree. Your clients have said that they are on a budget and you meet their budget so no money is "left...

    Lights or no lights?

Tom: I don't call that lazy. The way I look at it, I know sound and music. It isd my job to knocks their socks off in that area. Putting lights into the equation detracts from that. Right now I arrive about two hours before the event starts. It takes less than 30 minutes to get the audio...
