Discenting Opinion

the profile system is in place to help other guests find out about you and possibly contact you if they have questions or might like an off-line clarification of something you've posted
I prefer that online conversations be kept online - hence no profile means you are not invited to contact me outside of this board. What's wrong with that?

it also assists the Moderating Staff to ascertain whether or not we're dealing with an actual person or a board troll who is simply here to disrupt our community.
Trolls are people too. Seriously, you should be able to do your job based solely on the content of the character, not the color of the profile.

If you have a website with your email and phone number on it, then what's the problem with supplying that information here so others can find out more about you?
The website was built for customers. There is no benefit in advertising to other DJs.

:shock:

You seriously believe this??? Then you do whatever you think works best for you...I have been contacted through my website by customers all over the World, when I recommend a DJ in their area I do so by sending a link to their site that I found posted on ProDJ.com.

The facts still remain: More personal information in your profiles gives the moderating staff more information to base decisions on that affect this community. Left to wonder due to lack of information and/or communication, we will err to the cautious side and eliminate the irritant.

If you had a better relationship with some of the others here, you just might earn a little more business. I have worked for and with a few DJs I have met at conventions and on the boards...paying events. I have referred events when we're booked....to DJs I've met at conventions, local meetings and on the boards.

Then again, it's not to say you will be referred business just because you have a name. You would also have to have a certain business prowess and service set.

As my signature has plainly stated, I am not a DJ. I have done some family gatherings a couple of times for no monetary gain but other than that I am not in the "Professional" sense. Thus I do not have a website to advertise, I am just an average "Joe" who happens to like DJ software for playing music with OtsDJ being my tool of choice.

I do frequent other DJ forums but mainly in the Digital DJ'ing areas of such boards (Like New Millenium here) plus I am a board administrator on Jumpin' Jeff's OtsDJ support site. I have no plans on being a professional DJ so in a sense I am being nosey here, and you can see by my post count that I don't talk too much and to the best of my knowledge have not made any waves with other membersso that rules out any deviousness that can possibly arise, at least from me.

For those reasons I choose to be somewhat anonymous and furnish very little information about myself on boards which is my choice. You see my picture in my avatar, and you know where I hail from, and it don't take a rocket scientist to figure out my first name since it is also in my sig, but that is about the most information I am willing to provide.

If having every blank filled out in profiles is the wishes of this board then it should be a mandatory thing upon joining this board with little asterisks next to each box signifying a "required field", since it is not then I feel I do not have to provide any information if I choose not to.

If the administration of ProDJ has had a change of heart in this matter then I or any other member who feels the same way I do does not belong here, thus if that is indeed the administrations stance on profiles then it is probably time for me to move on.

So if the adminstration feels that I should not be here then feel free to delete my membership and that will be that, but at least have the decency to shoot me an email stating that my membership is being terminated before doing so, since I did leave the option for admins to contact me via email enabled.

Agreed.

Kudos to the few who have gone a step further in accepting personal accountability:

Ken Heath-Moderator;
JohnnyDee;
ChrisHollowell;

to mention a few, by putting their real names to their user IDs.

Others have appended their real names to their signatures which is equally gutsy and appreciated by many.

Too many folks rely on the veil of internet anonymity to hide behind their devilish posting persona's.
Cap, I have no problem using my real name. How can I get that changed over??

Ken, DJs don't like to do work. If it takes more than sitting in a chair and pushing a button, many will whimper out. :shock:

Incase my profile isn't good enough:

I'm 28, not married, not even close. Blood type A-Neg, I wear an XL T-Shirt and a Large button down for those of you wanting to send me cool promo swag. I have been a DJ for 11 years after falling into it accidently. I could give a crap about long walks on the beach, I would prefer a hot nightclub called the Beach. I seem to get myself into mischief at conventions and have gone 4 years (missing last year). I have a cute 26 year old sister http://www.myspace.com/whitgrad03 who puts pacemakers in people for Boston Scientific, she has a dog named Pixie. My preferred airline is Southwest Airlines, preferred liquor is Hornsby's Hard Cider, my preferred side of the bed is the left. I think Bush is a moron. I get my hair cut like this: #3 Blend, Finger Legnth On Top, No Side Burns, Straight Neck Line Rounded Sides Of Neck Line. I am on myspace http://www.myspace.com/djlique. My dj name (Lique) was picked as a marketing ploy to sell t-shirts and panties that say "Lique This". It worked, and no I don't use it at weddings. I like Family Guy, and techy style shows. I can't stand twangy country. I don't like using public restrooms. I can get drunk on two beers. I don't like cats. My 103lb girlfriend needs to eat more http://www.newwavedj.com/jes/1.jpg. I like the color yellow. You can hear me on a CrankyGeeks.com commercial. I am trying to buy a house right now. This post is running on. My Dad owns a PitaPit in Cheney, Washington http://www.myspace.com/pitapit. Someday I will make my DJ Business Forms & Contracts available for sale.

I about passed out when I got this:

That enough information?

This is exactly the reason I changed my forum ids on most forums to Steve Fernino. Since the mid-to-late 90s, I have been known on various boards, chats, & bbs as "musicinmotion,""sfernino," or "djminm2." I have also posted as "PDJNE" and "djideasharing" (although someone else was that one here,) and others I can't even remember anymore.

I feel that even though I almost always posted my name in my sig, it goes more to my credibility as a real person. Also, now that more people are getting to know me, I want them to equate my posts with me not a slick handle.

I applaud Jam with what he is doing at his CPS forum by requiring everyone to register with their real name as their user id! That is something I would like to see on other forums, as well.

I don't have a website.

email is listed in the profile.. their is no place in the profile for a phone number, if prodj.com wants me to put a phone number in my profile I would have no problem with that, as long as "guests" (non-registered posters) do not have access to it..

Real name..
I have gone by the name Hippydog for almost 20 years now, I don't change it, and any forum I post in I use Hippydog. My hard hat that I wear at work even says "hippydog",

Thank you Scott.

Yes, I agree that a modicum of personal accountability can go a long way.
