Check out this floorplan I just got for my wedding this Saturday.

Seriously?

Anyhoo - it's already changed and handled. But, this is a professional hip venue AND experienced caterer.

Seriously......

Beats being in the closet:)

Wireless speakers over by the dance floor will help solve this unique setup.

Must be the same people I had a few weeks ago. 50 feet of extensions and cable solved their problem.

Had a local Comfort Inn do that to me for two years. They seemed to think it was all about the caterer! Finally, after literally arguing with the hotel's banquet co-ordinator, I handed them a sketch which they tried and have stuck with it ever since. Now they realize its all about the Bride and their wedding business has nearly tripled!

Years ago, I showed up at a new hip converted church for set up. A pre-visit had NOT been possible. Yep - I was told to set up in the closet HA HA. No. Not gonna' happen. On the fly, I made it work, rearranged some tables, set up, and had a cramped yet great event. Follow Up: Place out of business.... couple still married AND still and referring people to me :)

Side question: I don't have wireless speakers. Do you ever get sound from other sources?

You're right - what was I thinking? I mean, is it a party, or a DJ-Whiners Convention?

You'd think they'd change the floor plan,
just so they don't have to hear complaints from EVERY DJ that plays there.

I've played some crappy configurations,
but most of them were due to the lack of better choices.
(doors or exits in the way, etc)

It truly is amazing where the venue or function manager will try to have you set up...in my area, it's not so much the set-up inside, but how to get into the building. I work at this local school and have for the last 8 years. They rebuilt the cafeteria, and added a new gym. Beautiful, and it was needed, but when the PTA pres showed me where we had to set up for the grad dance, I almost died. It took us and extra 1/2 hour on each end even with 2 dollies!!!!! We used to walk down a small set of stairs and that was it. I find venues around here to be more difficult for set up as time goes on...

There is a Masonic Temple in town that has been hosting events since the Art Deco days.
A beautiful room with a huge stage, plenty of space, VERY TALL decorated ceilings and windows that go nearly to the top.
So the room is basically setup simply and symmetrically...BUT:
the ceilings are so high that the sound all but disappears before it reaches the audience...
and what DOES make it to the crowd is muddy and full of (unwanted) echo.
Every DJ in the area dealt with room in a different way...until management changed.
The new guy allowed me to setup on the FLOOR, rather than the stage...and the sound is great!

Sometimes, a little honest conversation can work wonders.
