Wow - you two have taken this thread totally off track.

This post started out as a thought provoking post - and others had tried to legitimately respond to it.

Then it becomes a pissing contest over who's signing who up for send out cards.

Maybe Ryan should limit members to two posts per day - which would cut out all this pettiness that's been going on here for the last six months.

Everyone talks that they want to be treated as professionals, but respond and attack each other like a bunch of 7th graders.

Scotty,

I agree. I wish Ron would just stop with his constant pursuit to bear the grudge and try to discredit anything DJA or anyone who supports it.

If that were to happen then there would be no reason for others to reply to him.

I guess Karl just felt the need to try to dig a bit. I'm sure he was trying to "get me good", but all he did was take my advice for his improvement yet again.

It is down right petty isn't it?

Neil,

All I did was tell Ron I would give him a call. You brought everything else in here. I am not trying to dig anything.

And to be honest, I have received more info from Dave Winsor about this than anyone. I asked Ron about it because I had already has some rapport with him based on other things.

Treating Dave like what? He doesn't even know I exist. I have just read his posts on ODJT where he is a sponsor.

You really have some sort of problem Neil. Not sure what it is but you should look into it.

Nehl, this is Rin speaking. I'm not sure what problem you have with Kirl but let it go man, let it go. If you need to blame me for all this then so be it. Mibich is correct, take the high road. As the great and powerful Fark Merrell said, donate to me and thou shall support Winnebego on the high road.

I suppose we should be hearing from Brobbie pretty soon so I'm sure this might continue. Ah what the hell. I'm on vacation so I don't have much to do anyhow.

Tell you what, just send me a card. You do know how don't you?

Whoosah, Whoosah.

I misinterpreted your previous post. Ron will be a perfect sponsor for you. Glad you finally came around on this too.

Well Kirl, I'm not sure what you're referring to. Want to get past your shoulder chip and contribute to this thread based on it's original intention?

What is the topic Kneil? Can you refresh our memory? It was right before Ed was bored over at DJA, jumped in and started to derail it with his SOC pitch. It just kind of snowballed from there. Yep, my fault, you guys are innocent. It's all on me, I did it. Now that you guys are though we can get back on subject. So do tell us what's next. Let's see if your next post can stick to and only to your original post. Can you do it?

According to Dictionary.com:

com·pla·cent –adjective 1. pleased, especially with oneself or one's merits, advantages, situation, etc., often without awareness of some potential danger or defect; self-satisfied: The voters are too complacent to change the government.
2. pleasant; complaisant.

I think Neal's point (Correct me if I am wrong Neal) was to not allow yourself to become complacent just because you have never heard "YOU STINK". No matter what you are always going to stink to someone somewhere sometime. Keep learning. Keep growing. Keep on keeping on.

Take every opportunity that presents itself to better yourself, whether it is personally or in business or both. Let me repeat...Take every opportunity that presents itself to better yourself, whether it is personally or in business or both.

Never believe that just because no one has said that you are crappy that you aren't. Most people are afraid of confrontaion and would never say anything like this to your face. They are afraid of either A) hurting your feelings, B) what you will do, C) both.

Did I get it Neal???

Pretty much. Now I have to admit I don't take EVERY opportunity for improvement, but I do look for improvement even though I don't have people saying I suck.

I try to view things from "what's best for my client" rather than what's easiest for me. Sometimes those go together but often times they don't.

This might be true if people aren't saying anything to you at all. But if the clients and their guests are saying things like;
You did exactly what we wanted. You made our day special.
You are one of the best DJ's we've ever seen.
I've never seen a DJ do the things you do.
You were great. What a fantastic time we had.
We will be happy to recommend you to everyone we know.
Hearing these things still does not mean there isn't room for improvement but be proud, very proud of hearing such compliments. Hearing statements such as these means you are doing some right. Keep at it.

Now there is all kinds of different help in which to improve. If we are talking about just entertainment then there are many local area professionals who offer great assistance. Check out those who teach in the entertainment field and learn from them. Join a local theater group or join a Toast Masters group. These organizations will work with you on a regular basis providing you with useful skills.

Another form of training you might consider is vocal lessons from a professional vocal coach. I'm not talking about someone to show you how to make announcements but someone who can help you control your voice. You may not be a great singer but you will learn how to control you vocals and make your voice do things you didn't thing you could do. It's kind of like a pro football player taking ballet lessons. Ballet lessons teaches him things he can't learn from a football coach.

On of the best lessons I ever learn was years ago from a course I took at the Old Disney Institute. They taught me a few things I still use today. Disney, you'd be amazed what they can teach you. Just open your eyes and ears and learn.
