I presented a solution but hippydog did not even touch that point of my post. Here it is again.

"There is a solution to the problem. It is called being informed and voting. This did not happen over night and it will not get changed over night. Look up how many registered voters there are compared to the population that are eligible to vote, then see how many of the registered voters actually vote. It is unbelievably sickening."

1.) when you use the word "enabler" it is akin to saying its part of the problem, or part of the cause..
Yes, welfare fosters dependency for far too many, so yes, your interpretation of my perspective is correct.

If you want to argue semantics that's fine.. but I think you knew the basics of what I was trying to say. :)
I'm not arguing semantics. I just don't want words put in my mouth. Actually I read what you've written, but I have no idea where you're going with it nor why.

As far as your assertion (and understanding) of "separation of church and state", mmmmmm you're off base IMHO, way off base.
Yes, it is true that we have, at the Government level, a separation of church and state. That being said, that has no bearing on what any given church can or cannot do for the poor or needy, not does it have anything to do what the state can or cannot do for the poor and the needy. It also has nothing to do about what either one of those institutions has to say about what and how the other does for the poor and needy. So I respectfully ask you, what point were you trying to make?

actually it does..and I will have to come back to this topic as I will need to find direct examples of what I am talking. IE: I dont have the words at hand to correctly explain it :-(

basically its not a direct "bearing" or 'determination of position", EG: no one wrote a law that says 'they can't help the needy',
BUT as the church lost authority it also lost a segment of its ability to 'help' the poor.. How adoptions are now handled I think would be a great example of the change that happened over time..Someone had to 'pick up the slack' and that turned out quickly to be the 'state'.
As time went on it got worse (or better depending on your point of view)
As a part of my Master's degree in Social Work, we studied the history of helping the poor in the United States. Hippy, I say this in all sincerity and with no wise-***-ness intended, I look forward to what you uncover. I always welcome the opportunity of leaning new things. -Z-

Steve, it looks like you've started some controversy here. I'm not here to argue or to try to change anyone's ideology but I do take offense to those that are being judgmental without knowing anything about me. Hippydog is making assumptions about me and making himself an *** in the process.

Actually this is Byron signing in under DJSTEVEZ's account, LOL...just kidding. It wasn't my intent to start controversy (not saying you said it was). Initially I just wanted to share what I thought was thought provoking data. I guess that was foolish of me really to think controversy wouldn't ensue...I posted very specific BOSE Poll in the Gear section and someone urinated all over that...my point being I think it is just one of those things that any time or place when/where you have 10 DJ's there will be 11 different opinions. Not necessarily a bad thing if everyone can play nice...I suppose that is part of how we learn. -Z-

I must say hippydog this graph debunks your argument. The war on poverty has been a huge failure at a huge cost. Government is creating more dependents. Welfare is creating more dependents, passing it down from generation to generation. Until we change the culture of dependency it is only going to get worse. Soon there will not be any more generations to borrow from, no more countries will buy our dept, and it will all come crashing down. No more money, and everyone is poor looking for food and water.

Would anyone be willing to turn the DJ industry into a communist experiment? Everyone on this board, let's send our earnings to Ryan. Then Ryan will pool the money and mail us all a check for what's "fair." He'll keep 90% for himself as the cost of administering the program, of course. We want this experiment to be as close to real life as possible.

Does anyone doubt for a second that we'll see a sharp decline in productivity when rewards are detached from work?

When people feel the need to resort to name calling because they are unable to defend their position, then it ceases to be a debate..
and thats what I thought we were having.. a debate between adults..

1.) Heres a hint.. If your unable to handle your idealogies being challenged, maybe you shouldnt post in a political thread.. if your panties get twisted easily , stay. the. frack. away..
2.) why wasnt this posted in the political board? At least there, the ones with thin skins can opt out..
3.) I'm being judgemental ???!!!! LOL

fine I'm out..
I didnt realize I was actually hurting peoples feelings in this.. I honestly thought we were just having a political debate (me and some of my best friends can have discussions that make this look like a love fest)

If i offended anyone with my radical views and musings I sincerely apologize..

Worth reading.

THE NIGHT WATCHMAN

Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert.

Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night."

So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?"

So, they created a planning department and hired two people,
One person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies.

Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?"

So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people.
One was to do the studies and one was to write the reports.

Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?"

So they created two positions: a time keeper and a payroll officer
Then hired two people.

Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?"

So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an
Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one year
And we are $918,000 over budget, we must cut back."

So they laid-off the night watchman.

NOW, slowly, let it sink in.

Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter...

Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the
DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY during the Carter administration?

Anybody?

Anything?

No?

Didn't think so!

Bottom line is, we've spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an
Agency, the reason for which very few people who read this can remember!

Ready??

It was very simple... And at the time, everybody thought it very appropriate.

THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY was instituted on 8/04/1977
TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.

Hey, pretty efficient, huh???

AND NOW IT'S 2012 -- 35 YEARS LATER -- AND THE BUDGET
FOR THIS "NECESSARY" DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR.
IT HAS 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY
100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES; AND LOOK AT THE JOB IT HAS DONE!

(THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY,
"WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?")

34 years ago, 30% of our oil consumption was foreign imports.
Today 70% of our oil consumption is foreign imports.

Ah, yes -- good old Federal bureaucracy.

NOW, WE HAVE TURNED OVER THE BANKING SYSTEM,
HEALTH CARE, AND THE AUTO INDUSTRY TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT?

Hello!! Anybody Home?

Signed, The Night Watchman

YES! Exactly. See, if the 2nd Amendment can get screwed with, what chance do we have of saving the integrity of any of the other RIGHTS which are suppose to keep us safe from our own government? Bahhhhhhhaaaaaaaa.

Bottom line!

Wealth is INFINITELY expandable. There is no finite set amount of wealth or currency in the universe. Because someone has more than someone else does NOT mean that YOU cannot create enough to put yourself in the top 1%.

If the top 1% controlled 99.9% of all the wealth and the poor STILL had cell phones, cable tv, obesity, lots of transportation options, housing etc. etc. ( and they DO) why is there a problem? The rich are getting richer, and THE POOR are getting richer. Not poorer!!! Look at everything they have because of prospertity!!!

If wealth does not exist, how is it even possible to help the less fortunate??
Wealth is a GOOD thing!!!!

If you would not break into my house and demand under the threat of force, my wealth, in exchange for "helping" someone else, why then, is it ok for the Government to do it on your behalf ????

Are we Americans, or are we victims???
Are we free or not?
