I don't subscribe, but that would have annoyed the hell out of me. I'd be tempted to send it back and ask them to extend the subscription by a month.

2005 Wrap Up....

Hi Guys,

Seems like one can't please everyone..... just most apparently.

In case it isn't apparent, you are looking at the 2005 Wrap Up. It is based upon a consensus of current product subscriber's picks (club jocks and "select" mobiles who specialize in video).

People asked us why they couldn't get any end of year "Best Of's" anywhere like ETV and other's used to do from their suppliers. We said, "Okay tell us what you want to see".

This particular reel is now almost sold out of its first run. Apparently its hot with VJ's who don't buy video regularly or guys who don't book a lot of video gigs...or guys that don't want to dig through a pile of discs for last year's clips.

The TM Century Classic product is a monthly series. It features a different genre and a different era each month (we do that so you can't mix up Whitesnake with Gloria Gaynor in the dark). It is available on subscription as well.... we have over 48,000 library titles to work with, so we won't run out for quite awhile yet. It is designed for VJ's who want to assemble a collection of standards at an affordable price and without the traditional video pool drama.

And if sales are any indication...well...lets just say we are a very...very... happy division of Screenplay.

BTW.... DJ Toad... Drax tells me you are one of the best video scratch mixers out there.

A few months back I put up a request on this board for VJ's who could scratch mix....and sent you an email invitation based upon Drax's recommendation asking if you wanted to submit. Did you not get it? I never heard back from you.

Shame you didn't submit. The guy that got picked for the "gig" got signed to a video specialty label with Warner Brothers for his work. Sweet gig. I believe it is the first VJ I've ever heard of signed to a label deal.

We'll be looking for talent again in a few months. Anyone from this board is more than welcome to submit demos when we put out the call again.

Toad.... be great to see some of your work next time around.

PS. Sorry all of you guys weren't happy with this one.... but mabye if you submitted requests like the other VJ's... you'd see more of what you need.

If you tell us, we'll make it....

Regards,

DH

I never received anything......I don't know if you intended this to read as condescending as it does............I knew nothing about it.

I also don't need a primer on what the TM VidDisc Retro is....I've been a subscriber since it started, I also began receiving DVDs in 1997 with ETV.

Then wht not release it as a special issue, or as a recurrent to those that subscribe to the Top40 disc (which I also subscribed to all of last year, I dropped the subscription because I like PO's Monthly better)

we have over 48,000 library titles to work with
And I already have the 21 I got in the mail this week and had to pay $30 for.

Titles I need yesterday:

Glory Days
Hit Me With Your Best Shot
Jump On It
Holiday
St Elmos Fire
Take Me Home Tonight
Got my Mind Set on You
8675309
We Built This City on RnR
Only The Good Die Young
Summer of 69
Sweet Caroline
Friends in Low Places
Tootsee Roll
What Is LOve
Tequila
Bootie Call

Put all those on a Disc and you'll never hear a peep out of me again.

Personally, I like the thought behind it, but if I were to have all the music already, then yeah, I would have probably been annoyed as well. I like to pick and choose the discs I recieve, and do not actually subscribe to any of the formats. I'll research the discs for the most value. The more tracks I can use without duplication on a disc with the required tracks, the better.

I'm actually looking at getting that disc as a new video presenter this year.

Wow... this board gets more and more short triggered as time goes on!

No offense meant DJ Toad... sincerely interested in your work. Drax said you were talented...so.. I hope to see your stuff next time around. I was able to get a VJ signed. I thought that was a good thing ...

As far as the "primer" goes... it was more meant for others who might read this thread and have questions about the product.

Thanks for taking the time to post your list of "must haves"... we use these lists and are grateful for them. Please don't stop your comments! If you don't ask... you don't get.

With a library this large and now over 2000 end users, it's sometimes hard to prioritize. Input is essential as we aren't psychic.

Regards,

DH

Doug,

I believe you were at NC&B last year? If you're going this year, I'll bring you a disc.

Doug,

I have no doubt that it is a popular disc, but it is a misnomer to call it "retro." It would not surprise me if a large percentage of your retro subscribers are receiving current product from a Screenplay vendor or from a competing source.

Toad's suggestion that this could have been released as a standalone issue is a valid one. You did that with ETV, right?

Had I been a Retro subscriber (which I have considered doing), I would have sent this issue back with a note saying that I already received these videos through my mainstream video subscription. I don't see that as a knee-jerk reaction. I see it as asking the vendor to provide me with the product I paid for - in this case, classic music videos.

How about expanding this thread as a list of retro recommendations or requests.

I mean they allready have a couple of 90's, disco, and pop discs out, but what videos are we missing? each disc is a theme, with some duplicate themes in the year, so you have maybe 1-10 themes so far.

How about Mickey - Toni basil?
Salt N Pepa - Push it?
Kylie Minogue - Locomotion?
...

Requests would be alot more productive than critisism...

BTW, I noticed a couple tracks that were on the retro 2006 that didn't appear elsewhere. Dont cha wasn't on a hits disc, but on Dance for example, so unless you get hits and dance, you might not have recieved it.

Not if the criticism stops this from happening again next year. If I get a best of 2006 next year in January of 07, I'll cancel. I would not consider anything in this current decade to be classified as 'Retro'

Promo Only offers their Classics Ala Carte......some of their latest are the best of 2000, 2001. I've purchased all of the classics except these....I already have the videos through my HV subscribtion.

With VidDisc Retro I have to accept what they send me. I can't send a disc back like the old Columbia House days. That has been acceptable for 13 months. This month is not delivering what I paid for.

If you bought a subscription to a monthly urban disc, would you be happy when a year end best of modern rock disc showed up? Not a bonus disc, but one that counts against your subscription?

Requests would be alot more productive than critisism...
It is also not my job to Program these discs, (although I have sent
requests for tracks in before) That's what I pay a monthly fee for.......

Sorry if I came accross wrong.

I do understand the 'Retro' perspective.

I have yet to look at PO.

Vid Disc

I'm with you Tom a la Carte, for those who have other collections. Promo Only has no problems selling that way, also they offer great discounts for ADJA members.
