I am copying my music and video library from a back up external hard drive to another drive on an Asus lap top. The external is good but the laptop copies are titled differently (looks like the problem is just with videos).

Here's what it looks like....
1) Original title being copied: "Bass Down Low - Dev f. The Cataracs" copied file comes out as "01 Bass Down Low Dev f. The Cataracs".

2)
Original title being copied: "Barefoot Blue Jean Night - Jake Owen -" copied file comes out "Barefoot Blue Jean Night Jake Owen Country Video October 2011"

I don't know why it's adding a number before the track and deleting the hyphens. A lot of my titles and artists are getting switched around. Thought everything would be identical. Is there a program that I can use to do a batch correction instead of correcting thousands of songs individually?

I've never had to copy my complete library from one hard drive to another. Could sure use some help here.

Thanks in advance :)

never heard of that happening. what version of windows?

And if I recall, media monkey might be able to solve a lot of problems from a batch perspective

Thanks Mark and Bill. I'll follow up on your information. I have no idea why this is happening Mark :-(

I use FolderSync ....... It just syncs the files from one drive to another so whatever they're named on one the "OLD" drive, they'll be the same on the "NEW" drive. Been using this program on Win XP Pro, Win 7, 8, 8.1 and now 10 with no problems.

BTW - to everyone ...... the software repository at SOURCEFORGE.NET contains lots of useful programs and utilities that were developed with your taxpayer dollars and therefore cannot be sold ...i.e. It's FREE! Another fine example I use is GIMP 2 ...... this is an extremely powerful image editing program with nearly the same power and capabilities as Adobe PhotoShop which costs hundreds of bucks! It does have a learning curve but so does PhotoShop.

For file copying, if you do not mind DOS commands, ROBOCOPY is a favorite and is on every Windows system since XP. The nice thing I like about it is will do a file compare and just copy the new stuff over.

Just a thought...on my Virtual DJ database I have the "filename" and then the way I want it to be listed in the program. Many times these are not the same. Just like when I buy a song off of Amazon, it may begin 04 - artist - title, meaning it is the 4th song off the album but I don't want that to be listed in the program, so I change it... but 04 is still listed in the filename.
Might be something to check.

Kenny you could go into your root folder and change it there. I'm not sure when you bring it into VDJ if that would actually change the file name though.
