Subject: Dixie Chicks - A Soldiers Remarks

May she also have the freedom to look for a new career.

Letter from radio station website in Lubbock, home of the Dixie Chick
that spewed forth about our president:

Name: LT Layne McDowell

Date: 03/15/03
Time: 01:54:49 PM

An open letter to the Dixie Chicks: Earlier this week, while performing
in London, you stated that you were ashamed that our President is from
your home state. I wonder if you realized how many Americans would be
listening. This American was listening. This Texan is ashamed that you
come from my state. I serve my country as an officer in the United
States Navy. Specifically, I fly F-14 Tomcats off carriers around the
world, executing the missions that preserve the very freedom you claim
to exercise. I have proudly fought for my country in the skies over
Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan without regret. Though I may disagree
wholeheartedly with your comments, I will defend to the death your right
to say them, in America. But for you to travel to a foreign land and
publicly criticize our Commander in Chief is cowardice behavior. Would
you have so willingly made those comments while performing for a
patriotic, flag-waving crowd of Texans in Lubbock. I would imagine not.
How dare you pocket profits off songs about soldiers, their deaths and
patriotism while criticizing their Commander in Chief abroad, even while
they prepare to give their lives to ensure your own freedom of speech.
Please ask yourself, what have you done to deserve that sacrifice? Do
not try to justify your comments by claiming that you made them only
because you care about innocent lives. Never once in our history have we
committed troops to war for the purpose of taking innocent lives. We do
it to protect innocent lives, even yours. If the world leaders of the
late 1930's had the vision and courage of our present Commander in
Chief, perhaps the evil men who caused the death of millions in WWII
would have never had the opportunity to harm a soul. The potential loss
of millions of lives in the future at the hands of today's evil men
necessitate action. In a separate correspondence, I am returning to you
each and every Dixie Chicks CD and cassette that I have ever purchased.
Never again will I allow my funds to support your behavior. All you have
done is to add your name to a growing list of American "Celebrities" who
have failed to realize that they have obtained their successes on the
backs of the American blue-collar workers such as our servicemen and
women. To Natalie Maines: This Texan?this American will continue to risk
his life to guarantee your freedoms. What will you do to deserve it?

Wow, that is powerful stuff Shelly. Lt. McDowell really makes some outstanding points that have quite an impact coming from a solider. I agree with his remarks 100% although I think it's time everyone simply forgets about, stops talking about, and ignores The Dixie Chicks. There are many more important issues for people to be concerned with right now than those goofballs.

This isn't a "dis" to your post, I just don't think the DC's deserve anymore attention or are worthy of anyones time and energy. I hope that the controversy dosn't help their record sales like it has for other controversial artists in the past. This soldier's letter is awesome as well as his plan to mail back their CD's. This guy really knows how to get his point across.

Thanks for posting Shelly!

I agree Uncle Mike
but so much came against this war and everything I thought that positive side needed represented too.
Not offense taken! :D

I wonder if Miss Maine is NOW proud our President is from Texas. His approval rating has skyrocketed the past few days.

I can tell you, the Dixie Chicks are still colder in Texas than my ex wife, and she had a headache 7 days a week.

Yes this will play out in time, but Texans aren't ready to let it go yet!

Thanks Shelly,

You are absolutly right about presenting the positive side and what better way to do it than with this soldier's letter. Even though I'm a little "Dixie Chick-ed out" I wouldn't mind seeing a letter like this get some national press. Any chance of that happening you think?

I just saw this on another website:

According to an article in Friday’s Orlando Sentinel country radio station K-92 FM is having a bit of trouble giving away some concert tickets. No takers. It’s for a May 3rd Ditzy Twits concert. Like I told you, country music fans aren’t the type who will tolerate a lack of patriotism. If Martin Sheen were a country music singer he’d be broke by now.

I strongly suspect if we take Ms Maine's remarks and insert another name and state, then most of you folks would be equally guilty of President bashing just a few years back. But then I guess some folks consider bashing our former President is more patriotic duty than lack of respect. Perhaps Ms Maines was just following a precedent set by others. Or perhaps that was true freedom of speech a few years ago.

I'll admit to bashing Billy Bob Clinton. He made it so easy to do. Anyways, who am I? I mean really, who am I? Do I have 20,000 screaming fans come see me every night? Do I sell out concerts at every venue I play? Can I call the networks and get a press conference at the drop of the hat? Well, I wish I could answer yes to even one of these questions but they all keep coming up "NO". Celebrities like the Pixie Twits have a captive audience, well they used to, so the things they say have a little more effect than what "I" say in Bismarck, ND when talking to a bunch of friends over a beer or 4. Nobody is trying to take away anybodies right to free speech, she just happened to say what she said in the wrong place at the wrong time. When you're in the spotlight like she is, you need to watch your P's and Q's but apparently, she hasn't taken that class.

The day that George W. Bush accepts campaign contributions from Communist China and allows them to receive sensitive nuclear weapons technology, I will bash him to high heaven.

If only Clinton had acted like 1/10th the President that Bush is, when the WTC was bombed in 1993, or when the barracks and embassies were hit, or when the USS Cole was attacked, perhaps the situations which led to the Dixie Chicks current problems might never have occurred.

'Nuff said about Slick Willie!

And your replies show exactly what I mean. Billy Bob Clinton and Slick Willy. The men who have served as President should always be referred to as Mr President, period. High road or low road, Republican or Democrat, that form of address is the only way to show proper respect.

And I suppose you consider Rush Limbaugh and others to be newsmen, right?

Are you trying to squelch my right to free speech? Billy Bob was a worthless president so why should I refer to him as Mr. President. That title is only reserved for president's that actually earn it and Slick Willy didn't do that in my book.

Alan, you have to remember that what Ms. Maines did (in public) and what we do here (in relative private) are two different things.

When Clinton was president, I could never have done what Ms. Maines did. Why? Because I don't have the same exposure that she does. She broadcast her sentiments TO THE WORLD because of her fame. Could I have done that? Hardly. THAT'S the difference.

When you have her stature, you'd better check everything you say when there's a microphone close by, because if you don't, it'll come back to bite your ass. I would hope that Ms. Maines realizes that now. THINK what you will, but watch what you SAY publicly.

Also, Alan, if the president should always be referred to as "Mr. President", how come whenever there's a Republican in the White House he's frequently referred to as "Mr. <last name>"? It was always "President Carter" and "President Clinton", but frequently "Mr. Reagan" and "Mr. Bush". Where's the respect there?

Clinton apologists and defenders would have more credibility if they didn't throw down the "well..what about Rush Limbaugh?" comments the second someone exposes the failings of the Impeached One.

The facts are facts: When facing a totally Democrat Congress, he submitted budgets with out of control spending requests, pushed for gays in the military policy, and otherwise behaved very much like the ultra-Liberal he always was, regardless of how he campaigned as a "New Democrat" ie, a moderate one.

Once the Republicans won the Congress in the 1994 election, suddenly he supported welfare reform, balanced budgets, said he may have raised taxes too much, etc.

It is NOT a sign of leadership to conduct polls on every issue and whichever side emerges on top, to adopt that as one's belief.

About the only thing he was totally focused on was securing bimbos, babes and other willing females who were eager to provide a special service, despite the very real threats to American security that started to really flex their muscles on his watch.

OH COME ON, JOHN!

<Enter tongue-in-cheek mode>

You KNOW that we're all myrmidons who can't think for ourselves! We NEED someone like Rush to tell us how and what to think! Only Liberals and Democrats are enlightened free thinkers!

Besides, why else would there be so many Liberal/Democrat indocrination sources at our disposal? You see, the vast powers of the Left are so threatened by a mere few war-mongering conservatives that the Left has to filibuster and completely annihilate these unbelievers every chance they get!

Just thought I'd weigh in with a chuckle...

I know Joe Martin subscribes to CDX and I'm sure many others here do as well. Typos on CDX labels are extremely rare.

For the CDX subscribers among us, have a close look at the label on Vol. 315, track 10. Look at how the artist's name is spelled. :D

Mr.Martin says...."I bet Ms. Maines & Mr. Clinton would get along real well."

Hmmmm.....add about 30 pounds, beat her with an ugly stick and splash on some hair dye and you would definitely be on to something there. :shocked!:

I just saw on the Fox broadcast network that Monica Lewinsky will be hosting some program (I'm not sure what it will be) in a few weeks. Eeeeewwww!!

The girl has no shame. Neither does the Fox broadcast network.
