Local Magazine Quotes

Our local wedding magazine wrote an article about popular wedding songs. The writer sent me a list of a few, and asked for short "thoughts" on each. My answers, along with replies from 2 other DJs, are featured in the current issue.

I get that request all the time, as well as the other songs on that list.

Yikes tried and true songs that come and go. First congrats Jodi!!! Never really play the Electric Slide here, Detroit area we use Stevie Wonder's My Eye's Don't Cry......still packs the floor at most events and usually the 1st line dance of the night for me. It's still good to have the song on file for weddings that have out of town guests. Haven't played Friends in a long time and get no requests for it. I guess when WYCD 99.9 FM changed formats and played the song 24 hours straight it burned everyone out

Yep, some times the tried and true do not work, others don't get requested. I actually cannot recall the last time a guest asked me for the YMCA, but of course I do have it and have dropped it when I thought it would work.

I had a few days to reply to the email requesting some quotes, which is good, because I wanted to be cool with my responses. I didn't want to just reply "played at the right time for the right crowd, this is a good one" because we all know THAT is true. I have MANY awesome wedding receptions that none of those songs even get considered, but, I would happily play any of them "for the right crowd at the right moment", and know I would have success.

I knew the author was looking for a little bit of a snarky hipster tone, because the sample she used when asking for some quotes was was something like:

"Chicken Dance. This one is way too cheesy to ever get played at a wedding. Couples should stay far away from this, and choose something like the Cha Cha Slide instead." (I'm paraphrasing)

Hmmm.

So, I did really think about my quotes, and I appreciate your nice replies. And yes, feel free to borrow or steal or use! Absolutely!
