I am very saddened to hear this news. I have incredibly fond memories of Lou Rawls. He would play concerts (usually twice a year) at a casino resort here in the Reno area. After nearly every show, he and members of his band would occupy a booth near the back of the lounge where I would be DJing. They would order drinks, socialize and occassionally even order up some requests.
I would often get compliments from Lou whenever I would pass by his table to say "hello". He was a gracious and wonderful man. After seeing him on many occassions (at his booth), I was pleasantly suprised one night when he came out to the dance floor. He must have danced for 2 or 3 hours that night. He had a great time and I was simply thrilled to entertain HIM.
He was a class act. One of the nicest celebrities I have ever met. I am really bummed to hear this news but I know he is in a better place now!
One of the most amazing voices I have ever heard and one of the most sincerely friendly people I have ever met. We were introduced by a mutual friend and spent only about 20-30 minutes chatting, but it was as though we had been old friends. He was truly a man of class and grace.
If there's a rock-n-roll heaven, you know he's part of the band.
