In framing an answer to the original poster, no I don't think she has hurt herself.

Lady Gaga is targeting young mid to late teens and young college age adults with her music.

Will they turn her off because of a finger wave?

The reality is no. Most people in this age group are not overly offended by this type of behavior, and probably think it's funny to have done so.

parents with kids should and will be offended, yes, but most likely are not buying her records anyway or going to her concerts with their little kids.

Adults who are offended are most likely not going to be potential album buyers anyway simply on her content and appeal. That in no way excueses the behavior. But I don't think that her appeal was to older demogrpahics anyway, unless thee was a single remake of a sinatra song I missed in Fame Monster;)

if Justin Bieber did that, well that's a whole nother story.

And lest we forget, a tremendously talented group made a very bad political statement (for their careers in music) when they denounced the war....Dixie Chicks.

They had way more universal appeal than lady gaga does, and look what happened to them.

I simply dont see Lady Gaga going the way of The Chicks.

Does she deserve it? Sure. She should be responsible enough to know that she is "on" anytime she's in public.

Will it happen?

Probably not.

A total lack of respect and a horrible yet enabling example of what you CAN do at public places anywhere. Totally tasteless, any respect I did have for her is now gone. Talented or not, what she did was inappropriate.

I'm wondering if everyone has been so down on professional athletes who has done the same exact thing?

Sorry...not even a blip on the radar...

Good Point Bob!

America idolizes athletes regardless of their behavior off field. Not even rape charges, sexual assault, assault and battery, drug charges, drunlen driving, etc, etc.....has slowed down the love affair many people have for their favorite star as long as they are stiill "getting it done" on the field.....or as in tonights case......on the court!

A "Madonnabe"...

:p
While that made me chuckle lets just remember that Lady Gaga has 3 #1 albums by the time she's 24.

Where was Madonna at age 24? Working as a waitress and trying to record her first single.

Only time will tell if Lady Gaga has the staying power of Madonna - not many do - but lets not discount her accomplishments.

I recall Charles Barkley in a Nike Ad where he blatantly stated "Im not a role model".

The difference between the slob on the street who engages in this type of behavior and a celebrity is that the cops arrest or put away the slob, and the press covers the celebrity.

Let's not discount the sad state of the music industry, the accelerated A.D.D. of the listening audience and the ease of which any dreck can make it to the airwaves via internet and youtube!

There are <so-called> celebrities today that wouldn't have made it past the local dive bar 20 or 30 years ago, sometimes that's a good thing, but sometimes not.
