Hey guys,

I had a couple threads out there about "Ceremony Mic Recommendations" (http://start.mobilebeat.com/showthread.php?t=51556) and "What Gear Do I Need In My Rack" (http://start.mobilebeat.com/showthread.php?t=49706) which leads me to this one.

Based on the great input I've received from you all, I've created what I think is a solid but simple Ceremony System and I'd once again like your feedback / input on it before I purchase.

This system would be only for ceremonies. Usually, our main system would be setup in the ballroom and we'd take this system outside to perform the ceremony. Laptop would sit on top of the box.

Apple MacBook Pro
Marathon MA-6UADBLK
- 1U ATW-2120 & ATW-2129 & ATW Mount Kit
- 1U Phonic PM801
- 1U Furman Power Conditioner or APC Back-UPS ES-350 (still haven't decided)
- 1U DVD Player
- 2U Rack Drawer
(2) QSC K12's

QUESTIONS/COMMENTS:

1. Can I connect everything to the PM801 including the laptop, then output directly to the powered speakers? That way I don't need another mixer?
2. I should decide on either the Furman or the UPS right? Not both. And if I go the UPS, that is not rack mountable right?
3. Is there an ideal order to stack these in the rack?

I guess my main question is #1 since I want to be able to take this system and simply put my laptop on top of it and that's all. It looks like the PM801 has 8 Mic/Line inputs that would suffice for the ATW's and probably the DVD player would be stereo RCA to 1/4". But I'm wondering about the laptop to the PM801. Can I just run a 1/8" out of headphone jack to one of the 1/4" line inputs? Or do I need a sound card? Also, the main output also looks like a 1/4". Can I run this to one of my powered K12's and then daisy chain the 2nd speaker?

Thanks guys!

physically what you want to do is certainly doable. But do you really want to be mixing off of a 1 unit rack mount mixer and using unbalanced outs?

I've used the 1/8 jack output, and it sounds fine to the untrained ear, many purists here will tell you it's unacceptable, and that's fine. You'lll need to decide for yourself. It seems to me that you'd be forever looking down at this mixer on a faceplate and not being able to pay close attention to tbe ceremony.

I think you should use a mixer that has two balanced outputs and forget this daisy chaining, which really functionally doesnt save you any time since you have to daisy chain a single unbalanced signal to another speaker, and you still have to run two power cables. What's one more cable to get really good balanced sound?

With unbalanced sound you do run more chances of having interference from air conditioning units, blenders, and any number of ungrounded devices with a motor on your circuit...with noise on your mix.

I agree, the mixer choice leaves something to be desired. You could use American Audio's M822FX board on a sliding shelf and be good to go.

Also, for a ceremony system, the K12's are overkill, Ev's ZXA1's will do the job with less weight and for less money.

This is why I love this forum! Great feedback.

I will get the M822FX's for my systems but will have to consider a new case now. I like the idea of a sliding shelf but that won't allow the mics to always be plugged in right? I'd like a system that is pretty much always ready to go except for plugging speakers of course.

As for the speakers, the only reason I opted for the K12's is because that is already the "extra" speakers we use for our satellite system...etc. But Now that I see the Ev's, I may consider switching them. Those look great!

So now my main thing is to find the perfect case. Since this mixer is not rack-mountable, do you have any suggestions on a case where this mixer can sit (maybe on top) with everything plugged in? And room for the laptop?

If you want to minimize space and permanently connect your wireless receivers to the mixer, simply get XLR patch cables w/90 degree male ends

What's the 2 space drawer for? Mixer could go in there, or you could design a thin line flight case type of box for a flatter more aerodynamic look

My ceremony system consists of -
(1 or 2) EV SXA-360's on Ultimate stand(s)
(1) Numark iDJ2 w/8Gb USB Memory stick
(2) AT 'Freeway 600's' with AT condenser lav mics "Y-jacked"

I've never been to a venue that didn't have power available within reach of an 80 ft. 12/3 AC power cord and I have two of those.

Hey fusionsound,

How did you create this input/output panel with RCA/XLR/Power Output and Inputs? And do you have a picture?

And thanks, I'll be getting that SKB case as well!

Hey again guys,

I'm ready to purchase but had two follow up questions. Here's is what I've decided on;

Ceremony system
- SKB Laptop/4U Rack $270 [http://bit.ly/bSsF0J]
- (1st rack) ATW-2120 $260 [http://bit.ly/dyxaN9]
- (1st rack) ATW-2129 $270 [http://bit.ly/cmExEi]
- (1st rack) AT8630 $15 [http://bit.ly/d6KZm0]
- (2nd rack) Rolls RM82 $230 or RM65b $280 [http://bit.ly/bWUigz] / [http://bit.ly/aRH2yb]
- (3rd rack?) APC Back-UPS ES 350 $45 or Furman Power Conditioner $45 [http://bit.ly/Y4Jt] / [http://bit.ly/coCG1X]
- (4th rack) possibly a drawer $35 [http://bit.ly/acEn7H]

1. Can I get some input/feedback/opinions on the difference between the Rolls RM82 and the RM65b? Purpose again is for wedding ceremonies. 2 Mics maximum.

2. I'd prefer to get the UPS over the power conditioner but I'm concerned as to how it will fit in my remaining rack space(s). If I go with the UPS, I can get a 2U drawer that will hold my mic, lav and UPS. Though will the UPS fit in the 2U space? With everything plugged in? This is my concern.

3. If I go with the Furman, that will only leave 1U left for a drawer. Is a 1U drawer high enough to store my mic, lav & bodyback? Also, would I have to purchase a specific drawer for the SKB case or will any 1U drawer work?

Thanks guys!

Hi Enyko, i haven't had a chance to take a picture of the actual front of my system. But here it is all set up, the panel with all my inputs and outputs i had done up myself, I'll try to take a picture of that later tonight and upload it on here.

This is my Ceremony / Cocktail System. While it's no where near the sexy level of the BOSE system, it still does a real nice job. With a street price of around $269.00, you can't beat it. Still, I'd never want to run my system on these for a 4 hour gig.

It's the TECHNICAL PRO POWER 12 USB. This Powered 12" Speaker (available in 15" as well) has A USB And SD Slot In The Back To Accomodate Digital Media! Perfect For General Playback As Well As Cocktail Hour At Receptions! It also has microphone and other inputs, along with an internal mixer & 5 band EQ. -Z-

Bill,

How would you rate the ATW-2129 on a scale from 1 - 5? Would one be sufficient for ceremonies? I use a Shure PGX and I want to replace it.
