Surprised no one has mentioned it all day, but 25 years ago on August 1, 1981, MTV debuted.

Watching a lame supposedly "First Day of MTV" on VH1 Classic. Thinking there would be vintage clips of the original VJ's and interviews, all I've seen are obscure to big hit videos from that time period.

Was so in love with Martha Quinn back then. Hell, still am! :)

I too think it is a LAME, real basic tribute...

Just another prime example that MTV INC don't get it or know what to give it's customers that want their MTV...

I too wished they would of shown vintage clips of the original VJ's and interviews they had done instead of having Lynn Hoffman plugging 80's comps or othe MTV INC merchandise and tooting their own horn for what "Cool" they used to do on MTV...

VH1 Classic is a cool station though, I just fear they're heading down the same road as MTV did getting further away from MUSIC and more into other stuff like reality TV shows...

DJ TAO

I was 10 years old when MTV hit the air. What caught me that late night of 81', was the Space Shuttle launch run down and then boom - Moon Man and MTV... (LOL)

I remember when they actually played music videos......what the M stands for. Every party we went to people had it on we watched for hours. It took away the 6 month gap between east coast and west coast and suddenly everyone was watching, listening to and playing the same music......wish they would go back to what they did best.

Martha Quinn started out as a DJ on Philly radio. John, I'll "duel" you for her at sunrise!

Happy Birthday MTV, but sorry you lost your roots.

WOW! I can still remember racing home from 9th grade in the Fall of 1981 to watch MTV!

MTV got me through High School. Fond, fond memories.

Naaa, I was still in high school. I just thought I was cooler than everyone else because I wasn't listening to Poison or MC Hammer.

Turns out I was wrong

In highschool, we were having a running count as to how many times we saw/counted seeing "Jump."

Of course the one kid that claimed to have seen that one vid more than the rest of us, skipped classes the most often.
