Just curious how you are getting the initial contact from your clients. I have been getting more emails than phone calls and sometimes get thrown off when someone new calls because the majority of the people are now getting the information from my website and then emailing me.

I have many clients contact me through email. However more bookings come from those that call.

Good point Casey. I have yet to close one client by email and usually after I reply to the email they contact by phone. I did have one that gave me their number to call and when I called them he said they were eating dinner and not to bother them again. :)

the first contact with someone is usually in person. our group dosnt really advertise and most of our gigs are referral based or a guest at a gig that really likes what we do, takes our business card or asks questions there.

Most of the time my 1st contact is by phone, but lately more and more emails have been coming in. If they leave a phone number, I prefer to call them rather than email.

I've had two by email over the last six months - and then when I was given the gig, I made contact by phone. I do not like the impersonal approach email gives and more often then not, I have better luck with personal service by phone or in person.

Mostly by email -- from my website.

They'll fill in the "Availability Checker" and it sends me their information. It also sends them a "Thank you for contacting us" email.

I also advertise my website & email in the phone book and on my business cards.

Most of my bookings are from the email contacts who have seen my website.
Most of the phone calls seem to be price shoppers just going down the list of DJ's in the phone book.

We get many leads via email, but have never closed anyone with email that I know of. Emails lead to follow-up phone calls, which leads to bookings - but like you mentioned, email is very impersonal.

Keep in mind that the emails are usually only for the 1st Contact, and for simple communications about event details.

For getting to know the customer and closing the deal, it takes phone calls, meetings and mailings.

And of course--a great show turns into great referrals.
Oooooh I love those referrals!
Of course, even the referrals contact me via my website/email most of the time!
