    waterproof speaker covers

I am thinking of trying out Under Cover waterproof speaker covers for my 4 zx5a and 2 kv2 ex.2.2. Lately i have been finding myself doing a lot more outdoor gigs and want to protect them just incase of bad weather. I would shut them down but, just incase i cant get to the power fast enough, I think it might be worth trying for additional protection. Has anyone used them for powered speakers? I have seen them used in passive speakers but not powered.

I've actually used black garbage bags and that worked but I'm also skeptical about using them on powered speakers because 1 the bags could melt on the amp and 2 air supple may not be enough and cause the speakers to over heat. Passive speakers I would not worry about that.

If I read correctly, you are wanting to use this once you've shut down power. Great call, and excellent choice.

I cannot think of an instance where you could not get to the power fast enough unless there was a flash flood on the way, in which case, cover of the speakers is the least of the issues you will face.

If timing is an issue, watch the weather, and on the first big rumble of thunder, make announcements, shut down then, prior to the water falling.

I agree that prolonged use of anything plastic can create a potential for trapped heat, and possible melt of the material.

In my own 16 years, I've always used Hefty 55 gallon black trash bags, turned off the power, threw the bags on, and taped them to the stand, and disconnected the power cable from my extension to avoid power surges.

Shutting down sooner than later, avoids most other issues.

Tuki Covers bags and covers are water resistant and gary will not make the pattern for a speaker unless that actual speaker is present (think perfect fit...)

I'm a tuki dealer and he used my EX2.2 for the pattern.

The under covers supposedly are venting, acoustically transparent and you can actually keep using them in the rain. I saw them in use on passive speakers in the rain and thought, I might as well give them a call and see if they have a version for powered. I did ask the question if I ran it in light rain, would i run into issues and they said no. I have reservations about using powered gear in the rain with the covers and I am not sure if it is just old school thinking or not. I thought if anything, at least since they are acoustically transparent and venting, at least i can shut down and not panic until i can get them out of the rain. I would use them on while the gear is running and if i do run into rain, shut down but, not have to worry about dammage right away or buys me time to move them.

there is a video here about it. When i called they said for powered speakers, there is a 10$ up-charge to make it front and back venting. It is around $95 a speaker. If it protects me once, then in my eyes it might be worth it.

I found this when I was at an event and the sound company running it was using them on the JBL line array's in the rain. Granted his setup was passive but, there was no issues at all with the speakers, and you couldn't tell sound wise that there was anything on them.

On a side note, Bill thanks again for the custom wires i think 1-2 months ago. The quality of work your company does is always outstanding!!! It has come in handy many times especially the Y splitter powercon for the KV2 subs! and the powercon in and out for the EV's. Talk about a time and wire saver!

It's not old skool thinking. It is smart thinking. Rain and electronics simply do not mix with people.

I think there is a case for being prepared, yes, and such covers do the job. But continuing to play in the rain with lightning and thunder? Now if it'sa light drizzle with a good forecast, that's one thing. Heavy rain, and all that other stuff?

    No.

    No.

    no.
