    4 K-12's or 2 EV ZXA5's?

I'm looking to buy a couple of more speakers for use in Prom's and other set ups. I have 2 set ups as it is but I wouldn't mind selling my JBL EON's and replacing each mobile set up with 2 K-12's each. But for prom's would 4 K-12's be better than 2 EV ZXA5's for about 500 people? Is double the price for the EV's really double the performance of 2 K-12's? I've looked up the spec sheet's on both and it's really hard to put $1700 into each EV when you can get 2 K-12's for that amount. Either way I would be adding 4 Yorkville's for the sub's and the prom's no matter if I get the QSC's or EV's.

    Any thoughts?

4 K12's will produce more output than 2 ZXa5s easy and last longer doing it so this is a no brainer to me.

Agree, plus you get the flexibility of 4 vs two for odd setup work, and less weight per cabinet. You can also get dual headed speaker stand inserts to use 4 k12s at once on 2 speaker stands, and still not have 80 lbs each in the air.

I would go for the K12's, gives you a lot more flexibility.

Being an avid EV/DYNACORD user, I too would opt for four K-12's for the flexibility. The largest problem I foresee in large setups using powered speakers is finding appropriate power to feed all the cabinets. This is where passive systems have the advantage. However, the flexibility of four cabinets as opposed to two IMHO outweighs the power issues. This will become evident as you mature beyond the school aged crowds.

Just wondering... have you considered EV Live-X speakers (ELX112P)? They cost less than and sound just as good (in my opinion) as K12s.

Sound just as good? I question that opinion. I used the EV 1503ER's and 1803ER's for almost 20 years and the were phenomonal. I really wanted the Live-X's to be another great EV product, but they fell way short in my (multiple) listening tests. IMHO the Live-X speakers have one of the harshest horns I have ever heard at normal dance playback volumes, and the louder they get, the harsher they get. Especially in the 1000Hz to 4000Hz range. They cause listening rather quickly at louder playback volumes.
