Photography for DJs!... NEW VERSION OUT!

If you bought Photography for DJs... 2.0 was just released, so check your inboxes! If you didn't get it, then I don't have your contact info. Shoot me a msg and we'll sort it out!

    *****

For DJs, it’s often difficult to get the photos we need for promotional purposes. We can network with many photographers to get photos of the crowd dancing, or maybe beautiful uplighting in the background; However, many times you want to show off the cleanliness of your system, our how stunning your light shows are, perhaps a photo of you going crazy during a hot mix, and there’s no photos of that.

Perhaps you work school or teen events where there are no photographers or maybe you want to shoot with NO flash and get amazing photos of your lighting set ups.Perhaps you are tired, like I once was, of posting cell phone or point-and-shoot photos on your blog.

The answer? Get a DSLR, but that’s a whole new learning experience. Shooting in automatic is like buying turntables but you put the software in AutoMix: it’s just not going to cut it. Likewise, spending thousands on camera equipment is not going to make you a great photographer– just ask the professionals!

I’m not a pro photographer, but I learned from many of them on the subject of low-light photography. As DJs, we don’t have to focus on amazing photos on PRINT, just on the video screen. Often we want to get great photos of the lights themselves without the haze making the photos blurry or faded, or using those element to create an eye-catching photo.

Why is all this important? Why look into spending money for camera equipment? This is the first impression people get of your company and you need to show them the best examples of your work. It’s pretty simple marketing…

This video covers everything you’ll need to know to get started including 101 stuff such as what camera is best for your needs, lenses to look at, and of course what each setting does. You will learn, without technical jargon, the difference between shutter speed, aperture, ISO sensitivity and how these all tie to create the perfect exposure. You will also get a crash-course to Adobe Lightroom and using it to make your promotional photos pop.

    Photos an cameras

I agree with Arnoldo, Yes go out an get a camera this will help with your marketing and its a great way to highlight your setups and other things. I've been taking pictures at most of event for a while now. Some time its me or I have an assistance help with that when I'm on the decks...

The great thing about this is that you might get shots the photographer didn't get. I have had clients ask for the pictures i took and they have be shocked as how many or which ones i took. Shocked in a good way. other things you could do with the pictures that take some time but its worth it.

The most important thing i do is in my contract it states that we will take pictures for promotional use. This cover my company just in case i want to use their shot for a flyer or something.

Cameras and software I use... Nikon D3000 Fuji Finepix2950 and my Iphone or HTC inspire.
