A freezer is not an appropiate place to store dry ice. At some point the pressure it creates will pop the door open and if it is at night you may lose food not next to the dry ice.

The best storage solution is a styrofoam cooler and blankets, newspaper, towels or other objects to keep air away from the ice. Even in the best of cases you can expect to lose around 20% a day. Back in the day when I was partners in F & B Manufacturing (we built over a thousand 55 gallon dry ice fog machines) we were also a local distributor for dry ice.

So since we are off topic here How long does Dry Ice Keep in a freezer?

Dry Ice is particularly useful for freezing, and keeping things frozen because of its very cold temperature: -109.3°F or -78.5°C. Dry Ice is widely used because it is simple to freeze and easy to handle using insulated gloves. Dry Ice changes directly from a solid to a gas -sublimation- in normal atmospheric conditions without going through a wet liquid stage. Therefore it gets the name "dry ice."

As a general rule, Dry Ice will sublimate at a rate of five to ten pounds every 24 hours in a typical ice chest. This sublimation continues from the time of purchase; therefore, pick up Dry Ice as close to the time needed as possible. Bring an ice chest or some other insulated container to hold the Dry Ice and slow the sublimation rate. Dry Ice sublimates faster than regular ice melts but will extend the life of regular ice.

It is best not to store Dry Ice in your freezer because your freezer's thermostat will shut off the freezer due to the extreme cold of the Dry Ice!

Dry Ice DOESN'T keep in a freezer ..... Normal freezer temperatures are higher than that of dry ice. Storing dry ice in a freezer will help it last a little longer BUT don't expect it to keep forever. I own an UltraTec "Dry-Icer" and it uses a single AC connection. I guess I'm fortunate in that I have half a dozen sources all within 10 miles of my home. I order 3/4" pellets by the 20 lb bag three days in advance ..... $19.65. I usually pick them up the same day I need them or a day ahead depending on what day my gig occurs.
