I only had 2 requests in my years of DJing.. and I have been doing this since 1985. a few months ago I had a request to run the playlist from an ipod or laptop and just supply my speakers and mic. I did give them prices but havent heard back.

I did a low end event 2 weeks ago.. well, it was very nice.. family planned and ran everything.. BUT they did pay for me and I helped move everything along... all was great...

I dont think they would have been happy with an IPOD no DJ/MC wedding reception

Umm...robertbenda clearly stated that MUSIC was NOT a priority, so the MUSIC SOURCE working properly is a non issue.

At my wedding (front yard), we just turned on XM/Sirius through the home stereo...not exactly high maintenance (I did have to turn the volume knob at one point...it nearly spoiled the whole day). "Someone who is a pro" was not in our budget because it would have been STUPID.

And when it was time for dinner, Ma said "Dinner!" (she did that for free). There were no other announcements - it would have just interrupted the conversations anyway.

Why do some DJs have such a difficult time understanding the concept that they/we are not required at every event?

because the thought that our 'share of the pie' is getting smaller & smaller is probably very scary to many..

Perhaps the divorce rate was lower 30-years ago
because the bride and groom were not paying for their OWN wedding.

    Oh yeah...
Last I checked, the old "head down to the courthouse" weddings are still popular.
Why do you think the entire wedding business took a hit in 2008?
