The three-channel amp in the Matrix-1000, (and 2000), is cascade-fed...meaning; the ch1 & ch2 inputs must be fed signal (and work best at at least 1 'Clock knob position), which send amplified signal to the two satellite speakers, and those input knobs also control the amount of signal the (two-channel bridged mono) sub amp receives... (best performance at 3 'Clock position) since it's dangerous to the overall health and longevity of an amplifier to run "unloaded", that is, without speakers, I do not recommend you use the Matrix system's sub without the satellites.

A pair of Matrix-1000's is a pretty potent system for events!
(just be certain to check and adjust phase)

email me and I can send you all you need to know about the Matrix systems, (schematics, set-up suggestions, etc).

Bob.. you have close contact with B52 so you may have been advised of something about this particular setup that is unique and I don't know about, and I'm not trying to suggest that a user do something that would void the warranty, but from a strictly technical standpoint there is absolutely no danger in operating a solid state electronic amplifier with no speakers attached. This is not the case for tube amplifiers those things absolutely must have a load attached, but because people have learned this with old audio amps and guitar rigs a misconception has been developed and applied to all amplifiers, and as already stated it simply doesn't apply here.

I would love to hear a confirmed answer. Sometimes a gig might warrent a bigger top (eons) with the b-52 sub. I would hate to think that the b-52 "line outs" for use with the Eons would only work (not hurt the b-52 amps) if the b-52 satellites are hooked up as well. If I have to hook up the satellites then this would be completely overkill and redundant (not to mention a possibly a funky sound).
THis might a case when a sub is not exactly what we think as a sub,,good question Paul.

The line-outs will feed any line-in you want to send it to... I STILL wouldn't run MY Matrix systems without a load on the satellite amplifiers.

If you want to run the line-level signal out to EONs or another Matrix, or a Crown Amp...doesn't matter. The signal in/out is basically a "Y" connector, signal goes in and immediately makes a u-turn to the output jack

I just got off the phone with B-52. I talked to Andrew, who confirmed it with another tech that I DO NOT need to have the satellite speakers connected to the Matrix 1000. I could just use the line out for any speakers I want with no harm to the b-52 amps.
This helps out alot, switching tops depending on venue size, and buys me time to acquire a Eon sub. I can keep the 52 satellites in the car as backups to the Eons. THe only thing that could go wrong is something zapping my 52 sub and knocking out the Eons at the same time via the line out. If this remote scenario would happen the backup satellites would be worthless as a backup (nothing to power them).
It looks like my Mackie Thumps may lose the battle to survive my equipment reduction. What a shame, never really used them. THanx for all your help everyone.
    Regards,
    jc
