Modded Hand Truck
Just a quick project I did and wanted to share. I had a regular hand truck from Home Depot with pneumatic tires on one end and hard plastic casters on the other. It worked okay, but it was very aggravating on cobblestones and other irregular surfaces due to the plastic casters. I saw the fancy RocknRoller cart with pneumatic tires on both ends, but I didn't need that much convertibility. I usually just use my hand truck "flat" and push it. So, after a trip to Harbor Freight one day (LOVE that store), I had an idea.
Original hand truck (from Home Depot):
New 8" casters from Harbor Freight:
I welded on two pieces of 2" wide 3/16" flat bar to attach the new casters:
Drilled a few holes and attached casters:
Done! It gets it's first test run tonight.
Already working on plans to improve the design. I'd rather have the casters closer to under the handle, but I want to maintain the ability to convert it upright.
Hand truck: ~$70.00 (bought it years ago). Casters: $12.99 each. Flat bar: ~$12.00. Nuts & bolts: ~$5.00
Nice project, man!
I too use a Home Depot hand truck, but I bought the one that is 3-1, a general dolly, a 4 wheel hand cart or my absolute favorite the wheels kick out and lock the dolly in a 45 degree angle. It's perfect for rolling around the photo booth because I the cart bears all the weight. Best $150 I've ever spent.
And like you I wish I had pneumatic tires. I don't know how to weld, though. Good job!
New on MTV this Fall,
White Boy Bill's "Pimp My Hand Truck!"
Nice job Bill.

Bill, I have the same cart, next time you visit, you can help me pimp my gears ride.
I like the tilt on that truck Waasta. Anything to help save the back is a good thing.
Stevez, it's on right after "16 and DJing" and just before "The Pauly D Project" (I wish I was making the second one up). lol
You got it Stevie Ray!! Hoping to make it over that way soon.
Those Milwaukee hand-trucks are super strong, I have one too; nice mod! Just add a 3/8" wood deck (or aluminum) and you're set!
good idea. and thanx for sharing.
I have the almost exact same truck I've been using for like 8yrs.
Those tires are dope.
If you don't think you can or don't want to do something, you are right. If you think you can and want to do something, you are also right.
Thanks again!! I had the 4x4 Hand Truck's inaugural run last night. Success! Rolled like a dream. No tipping issues either.
Now I have to figure out how to mount pneumatic tires on my B-52 ACT18's.
Thanks man! Wait until I add spinners, then they'll be funky fresh!
